Notes from a community space
An evening in a place people come to on their own, and what keeps them there.
A good community space is rarely loud. It simply shows up — doors open, lights on, someone who remembers your name.
Last night I noticed something small: the facilitator wasn’t trying to make things fun. She was making room for people to find each other. There’s a large difference between organizing joy and clearing space for joy to happen.
I carried this question home: is a community built from events, or from the habit of coming back?
